We're excited to announce that Datalab now offers data residency controls, starting with a new processing location opening up in the Netherlands for customers who need their document processing to stay within the European Union.

If you operate in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, the public sector, or simply have GDPR-driven requirements that document content stays within the EU, you can now run Datalab with your document data processed entirely on European infrastructure.

## How it works

You can set processing location on a per-request basis, where you can keep primary residency in the US but send specific requests to the EU for processing. If you would like to set EU residency for your team, [send us an email](mailto:support@datalab.to).

When you select EU-based processing, you continue to use the same Datalab API you already use, and your content stays within the EU for the full processing lifecycle — upload, OCR, extraction, and the output we return.

All requests will be processed and stored in the EU with a **1.25x multiplier on standard pricing.**

## What stays in the EU

With EU residency, the following stay entirely within the EU:

- **All document content.** Uploaded files go directly to EU object storage and never transit through US infrastructure.
- **All document processing.** OCR, extraction, and layout analysis runs on EU-hosted infrastructure.
- **All per-request data.** Intermediate processing artifacts and structured outputs are stored in the EU.

## What stays in the US

To keep your experience consistent and your account in one place, a few things continue to run from our US infrastructure:

- Sign-up and account management
- The Datalab dashboard
- Billing

Document content, per-request metadata, and customer file data all remain in the EU.

## Getting started

**For existing customers:** You can configure EU residency at a per-request level by following the steps [here](https://documentation.datalab.to/docs/recipes/file-management/file-upload-api#1-request-upload-url). To enable it for your team or to migrate an active workload, [get in touch](mailto:support@datalab.to) and we will get you set up.

**For prospective customers:** If you'd like to try Datalab before that conversation, you can [sign up](https://www.datalab.to/auth/sign_up) and use per-request data residency controls.

If you've been waiting on EU data residency before adopting Datalab for enterprise workloads, [we'd love to reconnect](https://www.datalab.to/contact).
