* This budget estimate includes salaries authorized under the MCI and C & Y projects. Five budgeted positions under C & Y are not filled.
The consultant has these opinions.
1) Salary levels for public health nutritionists are probably relatively low considering educational requirements and experience, as well as living costs in the Los Angeles area.
2) The salary of the Director of the Division is certainly on the low side, particularly if consideration is given to the advanced degree and years of experience.
3) The $1200 budgeted for services and supplies apparently is for the Division alone. When one considers that this amount must support the work and activities of ten members of the professional staff, this is very low and undoubtedly limits professional activities.
4) It is surprising that no allowance is available for travel. Most organizations provide such allowances to permit attendance at scientific meetings and maintenance of professional competence and interests.
