Block diagram illustrating a control system for generating spikes based on error signals.

The system calculates the error e_n by subtracting the measured response from the desired response:

e_n = \text{desired response} - \text{measured response}

The error e_n is fed into three parallel processing blocks:

  • Proportional term: g_P \cdot e_n
  • Integral term: g_I \cdot \sum_{i=0}^{n} e_i
  • Differential term: g_D \cdot (e_n - e_{n-1})

The outputs of these blocks are summed to produce the stimulation rate:

\text{stimulation rate} = g_P \cdot e_n + g_I \cdot \sum_{i=0}^{n} e_i + g_D \cdot (e_n - e_{n-1})

The stimulation rate is then input to the spikes generator, which outputs the final signal.
